My father in law is not doing any better. He had extreme breathing difficulties through the night. Only in a public Irish hospital would there be no doctor on hand for an elderly patient in liver and heart failure. They literally had nurses watching him struggle to breathe...without any medicine or offer of treatment to him. They wouldn't even give him a nebulizer.
Lord help me for the uncharitable thoughts I've had for this system that allows people to suffer in scary situations like this...and I will likely not have any hair left to rip out once we get through these difficulties!!
Anyhow - I am tremendously appreciateive of your prayers. I have let my FIL know that people are praying for him from all over the world and he is so, so grateful. If you are offering prayers, I'd love to share the gesture with him. Please leave a message in the comments and I'll make sure the message gets to him.
Many, many thanks, prayer warriors!
Prayers from cold & snowy Ohio, USA!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Donna. I'm going to ask DH to share the beautiful pictures of your Linden tree with him! :)
DeleteI'm sorry things aren't looking any better. I'd be having uncharitable thoughts too, considering the poor care he's receiving. Sorry, guys. Sending up some prayers!
ReplyDeleteWe had a ray of light shine tonight - improved breathing and decreased fluid in the lungs. Appreciate the prayers so much!! If he can stay on this path of improving, there's a lot of hope ahead and I can get busy on filing some formal complaints. Did I mention that my DH was told (when he tried to summon a priest at the worst of it) that "priests don't come unless the patient is deceased" ?!?! I might copying the Archbishop on that particular complaint, given that it's a Catholic hospital...
DeletePrayers from near Pittsburgh, PA! I've heard some of the other horror stories from the Irish system, particularly from my friend when her daughter accidentally cut her wrist while playing with broken glass; they were sent home on the first day and forced to come back the following day before a doctor treated her.
ReplyDeleteFrom your husband's FB post, he sounds very much like my (late) grandfather.
Oh goodness - I can't imagine that scenario. We should be thankful they did take him seriously at the A&E. I think it really helps to have family constantly present though. A lot of people have been telling me they didn't get a sense of how serious things were from DH's FB posts. Thanks for the Pittsburgh prayers, Stephanie! <3
DeleteHave been keeping him and your family on our prayer list since hearing the news. We'll keep it up. Thank you for the update.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Lynda. Really appreciate you keeping him on your prayer list. It means a lot to all of us. He's doing a tiny bit better tonight with fluid reducing in his lungs and he's starting to breathe a little easier. Praise God for that!
DeleteContinuing to pray!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. Really, really means the world to us! <3
DeletePrayers for your FIL and for the family (Oh! The frustrations!) We will offer prayers daily. God bless!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the prayers, Patty. So appreciated. He's doing a little better tonight with fluid reducing in his lungs and he's breathing a bit better because of it. God bless to you too!
DeleteMy goodness, checking in our your page after being away for a few weeks...so sorry to hear this. Will be praying for you and your family, Jesus we trust in You!!!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness indeed! So much has happened. You should really check out the update HERE if you want to get caught up on all the craziness you've missed the past couple weeks! I've been following along on your beautiful updates about Eileen and really enjoying them (and your honesty about the birth process!!). Thank you for offering prayers for my father-in-law. He really needs them right now. We had some good news today in that his breathing is a little better with fluid on the lungs reduced, so he's finally starting to move in the right direction at least! <3
